Mariana Reis Gillot
Biography:
Mariana is on 3. December 1975 born in Lisbon. Today she lives and works in Sintra, because this place inspires them. 1995 she began studying architecture at the Lusíada University in Lisbon. In the year 1997 she started a sculpture course at the Arco – Art and Visual Communication Center, which they in the year 2000 completed. With this institution she took part in a collective exhibition at the Museum of Ancient Art in Lisbon, participated in the Arco exhibition and in the realization of an installation in the port of Lisbon.
During her academic training and in the years that followed, she exhibited some of her works at art fairs in various fields. She has several plastic art workshops in the field of painting, Drawing and modeling with clay in her own studio, in kindergartens and primary schools in Mucifal, necklaces, azoia, Galamares, S. Pedro de Sintra and Colégio de S. Joseph (Ramalhão) held.
Until the end 2005 she researched and directed ‘Atelier 13 together with Salvador Reis’ in S. Pedro de Sintra. She was invited, to carry out a plastic art project for children aged one to ten for a full school year at Catherine College in Bragança. Then she worked there for two years as a teacher for artistic training with the therapeutic aspect of interpreting emotions and colors.
In the same school she directed and organized participation in the 15. Mostra of the theater of the municipality of Sintra. She was responsible for the theater assembly, for the development of scenarios and props. It was at this exhibition that it received its first honorable mention.
Although she has made several sculptures in her own studio in recent years, Has created paintings and jewelry, she turned to sculpture and installation. The theme of her current work is largely focused on human relationships and the interaction between people and their contemporary world. She focuses on problems and social issues, where the installation and the sculpture merge and ironize their eyes on daily life.
