Ed Heck

Biography:

The American artist lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. After completing his art studies at the New York School of Visual Arts, he first worked as an illustrator for the American Museum of Natural History, also in New York. He designed true-to-original drawings of dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures for museums and relevant specialist literature. When Ed Heck watched the movie “Jurassic Park” in the cinema with a colleague, he realized, that as an illustrator in the coming digital age he was just as threatened with extinction as the dinosaurs, which he drew every day. So began Ed, create your own dinosaurs and characters, with significantly more artistic freedom.

Ed Heck quickly developed his current trademark: the white dog with large black spots and long black ears, whose dog looks a little perplexed and confused at times - a lovable little guy, which puts a smile on the face of the beholder. The dog, which the artist captured in a picture by chance, has its living counterpart in the "Puggle" Max (a cross between a pug and a beagle), which the artist gave a home. As man's best friend, dogs are a popular motif for Ed Heck, to which he gives human traits. Besides dogs, there are cats, Birds, dinosaur, Monsters and other creatures, all of which tell little stories of everyday life in the streets of New York in the unmistakable manner of Ed Heck, whereby the humor of the picture is expressed in a correspondingly ironically broken title, often alluding to American proverbs, reflects.

Ed Heck's pictures were made for the first time 1999 exhibited in New York City and were an instant hit. The reaction from the visitors was overwhelming. The reactions ranged from surprised recognition to pure joy.
